Here are varying presentations of Calamity Jane. A wild uncouth character with quite a legend that frequently, and unfortunately, tends to come back to her apparent infatuation with Wild Bill Hickock. The first is from the 1953 musical with Doris Day and Howard Keel. We see a wild woman who strips the legend and becomes a housewife. Bullshit on multiple levels.The second is how David Milch and HBO saw fit to present her. Jane is first seen in the series Deadwood befitting her legend and very much in love with Hickock. Later she develops into a bi-curious alcoholic. She has an interesting relationship with Joanie Stubbs, a fictional character, as they share their lives in the lawless realm of Deadwood.
